Royal Free Hospital – Children’s’ ward refurbishment

Murphy Philipps were commissioned to undertake the re design and re-planning of L6 of the main tower at the Royal Free Hospital. The project, which has been highly commended in the 2018 Building Better Healthcare Awards, has been the result of extensive user consultation and detailed pre planning to help enable the scheme.

The new ward consists of 8 single rooms, 2 single isolation rooms, and 4, 4-bed bays, all with en-suite WC and shower rooms. The ward also includes a Treatment room, an interview room and parent room, Pantry spaces, clean and dirty (Sluice) utilities, store rooms and visitor and staff WCs.

The scheme design has been the result of extensive patient and staff consultation aiming to provide a colourful, dynamic space suitable for teenagers as well as younger children whilst maintaining a professional hospital environment, the outcome has been very well received and aims to support future Trust refurbishments.
