5,500 sqm
The new Theatre Block at Hinchingbrooke Hospital replaces the main theatres to the rear of the hospital campus, adjacent to areas containing Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) panels. In line with NHSEI guidelines to replace RAAC panel buildings by 2035 the Trust identified this as part of their remediation strategy and is the first significant phase in a wider redevelopment of the site.
Key drivers for the new scheme were to create an environment providing a positive patient experience and efficiently planned to deliver modern clinical service. HBN compliant theatres of sufficient size to incorporate robotics as a future requirement, and an environment where staff can be trained.
The 5500sqm new-build development is arranged over 3 floors and provides the following accommodation:
We worked collaboratively with the design team, including regular Revit and IFC information exchanges to deliver a full BIM Level 2 project in compliance with all ISO 19650 requirements. The project also fully complies with P22 BIM requirements and includes asset data information for use in the building’s operation post-handover.
Prefabrication of several significant elements means the project sets exemplar standards for the use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), improving sustainability and efficiency in design, and exceeding NHS targets for BREEAM Excellent and Net Zero Carbon.
The project delivers a brand-new state of the art facility that improves patient experience and provides a modern and uplifting environment for staff to work and train efficiently.
The standardised room solution will allow for flexibility as clinical requirements change in the future.
