Medicinema at Manchester Royal Infirmary is apatient-centred initiative designed to transform the hospital experiencethrough the power of film. By creating a dedicated cinema space within thehospital, the project aims to provide moments of escape, comfort, and emotionalrelief for patients, families, and staff.

Thoughtfully integrated into the clinical environment, the design prioritizes accessibility, inclusivity, and wellbeing. The space offers a calming, immersive atmosphere that contrasts with traditional healthcare settings, supporting recovery and mental health. Medicinema demonstrates how innovative design can enhance care by addressing not only physical needs, but also emotional and psychological wellbeing.

Working on the Medicinema project at Manchester Royal Infirmary was an incredibly rewarding experience. It was inspiring to help create a space that brings comfort, distraction, and moments of joy to people during some of their most difficult times. Seeing how thoughtful design can positively influence wellbeing reinforced the importance of creating healthcare environments that support emotional as well as physical recovery. Collaborating with hospital teams, patients, and partners throughout the process made the project especially meaningful, and it was a privilege to contribute to something with such a lasting and human impact.
