Introduction

01

The Bracknell Forest Centre for Health is a modern community healthcare facility at Market Place, Bracknell. Commissioned by NHS Frimley Integrated Care Board, the centre provides an integrated hub for the town and the wider Bracknell Forest area, bringing together primary care and community services within a single purpose-built building.

Sitting on a prominent town-centre site adjacent to Skimped Hill Health Centre and surrounding residential and commercial developments, the building rises over three storeys with plant at roof level. It accommodates five healthcare providers, with consultation, treatment, and clinical support spaces organised to improve accessibility and enhance the patient experience.

Strategic goals and objectives

02

The design increases healthcare capacity while creating a flexible environment capable of adapting to evolving models of care. Clear patient journeys, efficient clinical workflows, and welcoming staff and patient spaces were prioritised throughout. Designed as a modular building, modern methods of construction were used to deliver Pre-Manufactured Value, enhance build quality and programme certainty. The scheme is sensitively integrated into the townscape, maintaining pedestrian and vehicular connections and strengthening accessibility to the surrounding area.

Implementation and engagement

03

Close collaboration with clinical stakeholders informed the layout and operational strategy. Workshops and engagement sessions refined department organisation and circulation, ensuring the building supports both day-to-day operations and future service adaptability. Sustainability was embedded throughout, with the design engineered to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ via energy-efficient systems, maximised natural daylight, and responsible construction practices.

Main Reception

As someone who has worked on a lot of healthcare buildings over the years, I want to congratulate the team on the calm and welcoming environment you have created. The use of wood throughout contributes to the feeling of nature and is visually very pleasing as well as being tactile, as is the use of the graphics which brings a sense of the local forests into the building and gives patients something interesting to look at whilst waiting.
